It's a door!

Wow! That was an adventure. You see, I'd gotten my door way back in the very beginning stages of building my tiny house. I knew it was an odd door - but it's an odd house after all - right?

Finding a doorknob and the inner workings was quite the challange! It was a lot of fun though - since it meant shopping every used and re-used store in town. I ended up finding the perfect fit at Second-use in Seattle. What a releif! I was begining to think I would need to get a whole new door!

I had to cut almost 7 inches off the bottom - since my doorway is very short. It makes for a short, wide doorway - like me! Feels rather hobit-ish.

With the door, all I need now are the two small windows for the upper lofts. Once those are in place she will be basically sealed up.

I'm still toying with my final floor plan - and therefore toying with where all the plumbing, wiring and propane piping needs to go. That is my next goal though - solidify and begin installing all those things. On to more learning for me!

UPDATE: I had trouble getting the door to stay closed. I figured that since I hadn't leveled the house before installing the door - that it just needed to be trued up a bit - or that I'd installed it wrong. I asked my friend Craig if he could help me out with that. He took one look and says "You did a great job! That's exactly how you install a door. but did you notice that the guts are backwards?". Doh! Seems I found the door-knob-workings for a door that swings the other way! Shoot! For now I've turned the mechinism updside down so the door will stay shut. Back to the stores to find the proper one!
