Getting to the guts

Kiwi crates! They are perfect temporary cabinets and bookshelves.

I am gearing up for Critical Massive that takes place July 15th-19th this year. I really want to be able to show people how I'll be using the space in the tiny house - and how comfortable 117 square feet can really be. So I've been creating temporary cabinets and furniture until I have the time/money/energy to build the "real" pieces. The farm has always had an abundance of kiwi crates since they are just too cool to throw out - but not the right proportions to use for too many other things. I've been told I can have as many as I want. They are PERFECT for this!

I've also started framing out the walls inside. You can see where the bathroom will be now - with the toilet set in place and bamboo flooring installed.

I continue to have visitors - as you can see Laurell in her tutu came to check things out. She was quite impressed!

One... last...shingle...

Still haveing the beautiful weather in the the Northwest - we finished up most of the finish work on the outside this weekend. We put shingles on the upper ends of the house (See Stefun doing his impression of me!). We also preped most of the trim for the outside corners and around the windows. The outside is SO close to being done!

I'm headed to Colorado to visit my Mom and brother and his family this week. When I get back I'll be working on installing the cork board flooring throghout most of the little house and bamboo flooring in the bathroom. Then it's onto framing out the inside walls.

I really feel Like I'm making progress now. It's a great feeling!

It's not always pretty...

A little more caulk...

But it sure is fun!!!

I have to confess something: I tried to use windows as skylights. I had gotten the windows for very cheap at a used building supply store - and I was just SURE I could make them work as skylights. Yah... well... everyone said I was nuts. They were right. There is just is no way to seal windows properly to sit at a 45 degree angle and not have them leak. Boy did they leak!

It's been holding me up - making it impossible to continue on the insides. I finally bit the bullet and ripped those puppies out and replaced them. It was a lot of work - and my entire body hurts right now to no end. But with the help of friends - we did it - and now I can move on.

The weather has been AMAZING here and there have been more and more people stopping by where the tiny house lives now. After such a long, hard day working on the windows and other various bits, it was so nice to have friends and kids running in and out of the tiny house and stopping to sit on the porch and chat. Benni and Jole (the folks who own the place I'm parked at) brought out fried chicken and mashed potatoes and we had a little party. A little, tiny, porch party ;)
